Cultural Institutions Library

The Public Library and Grammar School Library Ruhla offers a variety of different media for children, teenager and adults. The library is also a place for pupils and teachers of the Albert Schweitzer Grammar School. The library is located in the 1st floor of the new building of the local Grammar School. Parking is available nearby.

Loan Inventory:

The inventory contains approx. 11,500 media units (e.g. books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs) which can be borrowed. The inventory will be extended regularly with rented units from the Regional Office for Public Libraries in Thuringia.

Onleihe – Loan of e-media in ThuBIBNet:

User of the Public Library Ruhla can borrow e-media from the “ThuBIBNet” library network, which is available 24/7, whether from home or on the go. More than 54,000 books, audiobooks, music, videos, magazines and newspaper are available online. Special advantage: There a no overdue fines with the Onleihe: After the loan period expires, the file cannot be open and will be returned automatically.

To use the Onleihe, you need an internet connection with a device (like a laptop, tablet, e-reader, mp3 player or smartphone), a valid library card, and the following free software: Adobe Reader, Adobe Digital Editions, Windows Media Player or the Onleihe-App. To open media from Onleihe, you have to set up an “Adobe ID” once.

An internet workstation is available in the library.

Many events like library introductions, book readings and presentations of current literature for kindergarten, school and other institutions are offered and organized every year.

The public library is located in the former forester’s house in Thal, close to the Local Museum of Thal and operated voluntary by the members of the association “Heimatverein Thal e.V.”. A wide range of media like fiction, children´s books and non-fiction books are available.
